All of us strive for healthy, glowing skin and picture-perfect make-up, buuuuut we aren't always excited at the price-tag that seems to come along with it. With that in mind, we have put together a few tips that are budget-friendly and worth remembering.
Makeup brushes and sponges accumulate bacteria, dust, and dirt if they are washed seldom or not cleaned properly. The bacteria build-up can lead to breakouts, clogged pores, irritation or even viral infections like pink eye, urgh! By regularly cleaning your brushes and sponges you'll keep the bacteria away from your skin and your beauty tools will last for longer. We like using a cleaning mat like the Sigma Spa Express Brush Cleaning Mat to wash our brushes thoroughly.
Exfoliation is key to flake-free, healthy-looking skin. By exfoliating a few times a week you'll avoid growing scales and it'll help minimize breakouts. Our Cora 3 and Cora 7 are the best options for the face and body as they both have gentle and effective brush heads that are safe to use in the shower.
For a natural homemade (that's super simple and extremely delicious) - Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of sugar and massage it gently into your lips. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then remove it with a wet towel - et voilá!
Let's talk about hair masks! There are many amazing options (like the brand Gisou above) but another cost-effective option is to use Castor Oil!
You'll need 1/2 cup of Castor Oil. Start with slightly damp hair and apply to the roots and work your way down. When you’re done put your hair up in a bun and cover it with a shower cap. Keep it on for a minimum of 20 mins or overnight. When it’s time to shower keep the shower cap on while you wash your body - the warmth and steam from the shower will open up hair follicles to better absorb the castor oil and leave your hair super shiny and smooth. To rinse it our you'll need to shampoo multiple times to get rid of all the oil. A good tip is to condition your hair 30 minutes before you take a shower. The oil should come off easily.
Maybe you’ve heard about cold skincare and its many benefits. But if you haven’t here’s the deal: Keeping your lotions, moisturizers, serums and eye creams in the fridge not only keeps them fresh for longer, it also reduces redness and puffiness and boosts circulation in the skin. Doesn’t that just sound like the best beauty hack ever?
Pro Tip: Remember that although cold skincare is great, it doesn’t work with all of your skincare products. Avoid putting oils in the fridge, this will thicken their consistency and ruin them. Gel bases products, moisturizers and any products that contain Vitamin C are the ones who benefit the most from cold storing temperatures because it keeps them from breaking down and oxygenizing.
Do you find that your makeup looks so different outside than it does when you’re applying it in your bathroom mirror?! Bad Beauty Lighting (BBL) can be at fault. Good lighting is your friend if you want to avoid beauty mishaps like putting on too much bronzer or blush and not blending your eyeshadow or concealer enough. You can fix this by investing in a good natural daylight LED mirror.
Not sure which type of mirror suits you best? Take our quiz and find out!
How many times a day do you find yourself touching your face or resting your chin and cheeks in the palm of your hands? It’s probably more than 20 times a day, and it’s your skin’s greatest enemy. By touching our face often we transfer viruses, bacteria, dirt and allergens from our fingertips, palms and back of our hands onto our skin. This can damage our skin, make it more prone to breakouts and even intensify dark circles.
But we know this habit is a tough one to break, so while you're looking for the best trick to stop yourself from touching your face throughout the day, remember to wash your hands correctly for at least 20 seconds each time.
If you like to curl your lashes every day before applying mascara you know it takes a bit of time to get the perfect curled lash. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, your eyelash curler is being a bit naughty and the end result isn’t quite what you were expecting. So replace your classic curler with a heated one like the Ardell Eyelash Heated Curler to ensure you’ll get the desired look every time around.
A heated curler doesn’t only help you achieve the same look every time, it’s also gentler on your eyelashes. It doesn't pull on or crimp your lashes and it helps you avoid damaging them or your eyelids. Curling your eyelashes has just become so much easier!
When it comes to removing makeup and cleansing, they're two different things. If you're not removing your makeup first your cleanser might not be as effective as it should be! Use Micellar water or an oil-based makeup remover to take off your makeup first. They'll easily remove stubborn makeup like eyeliner and mascara properly without scrubbing and hurting your sensitive eye area. Afterward, pick your fave cleanser and get that squeaky-clean glowing skin you deserve!
If you’re in need of a tinted moisturizer or a bb cream consider the option of making it yourself.
Save some money and get the right shade of tinted moisturizer by mixing your liquid foundation with your face cream. Add a dime size of moisturizer and 2 drops of your foundation and mix them together (you can mix them on the back of your hand). If you want a more dewy finish just add less foundation. Easy!
If you love liquid lipstick but hate the drying effect it has on your lips only a few mins after you applied it, we have the perfect solution for you! To lock in that moisture under your favourite lipstick, apply a lip balm first. By doing this the liquid lipstick will absorb the moisture and oils from your lip balm instead of your lips.
We hope these tips will help you improve your beauty routine while keeping your skin in perfect condition. We would love to know if you try any of these out, comment down below and share it with a friend if you find them useful.

Customer CommentsHi ~ I loved every one of your Beauty Secrets…except #10. I have a hard enough time keeping color on my lips without putting lip balm on first. By the time I finish getting dressed, the lipcolor…whatever I use…is gone. So instead of moisturizing under lipstick in the daytime, I wait until my day schedule is done and super moisturize my lips at home. Drying lip color doesn’t feel very good, but at least it stays on for a few hours. In the evening hours when I’m alone with my husband I use long lasting lip color and lots of gloss or substitute a little nice, gooey moisturizer. Even putting on a hyaluronic acid serum first seems to help. My lips are smoother and they have less lines than they did when I was young…and I’m in my 80’s now. It was one of my pet peeves when I was young. I had such “old looking” lips. Now, my lips are very nice and smooth and I can add more lipstick as often as I want to at home.
BTW…I love your mirrors! I couldn’t live without your 10x stick on mirror and it has the best suction cup I’ve ever seen. I had it stuck on my big bathroom mirror for months until one day it crashed and broke. Silly me! Now I remove and replace it every time I clean the mirror…and not clean “around” it. LIve and learn…
On May 11, 2020Great tips! I use my blow dryer to heat up my eyelash curler and it works great. Just be sure to test your curler to make sure it’s not too hot before using!
I love your idea of making your own BB cream. I will definitely be trying that. Thank you for the tips!
